Last week I shared some favorites from when I was a kid. This week I asked my son, Ben, what his favorite books were from his bookshelf. There are some new and old in his selections, and I thought it would be interesting to share them, and why he likes them.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, Not Good, Very Bad Day: “I think it’s funny when he gets gum in his hair.”

A Bad Case of Stripes: “I like it that she got a case of stripes. It’s funny.”

I Don’t Want to be a Frog: “I think it’s funny he doesn’t want to be a frog. I would want to be a frog.”

William the Vehicle King: “I like that he has cars and is called William the Vehicle King. I like vehicles.”

Three Billy Goats Gruff: “I like that the troll tries to eat them up. And I like when he says, ‘I’m going to eat you up!'”

Curious George Stories to Share: “I like the chocolate factory story because they talk about chocolate and I love chocolate.”

Drag Racers: “I like that drag racers race in one race that takes 4 seconds to be done.”

Well, there you have it folks. The inner workings of the 5 year old mind and how it selects books. Seems to me funny plays a big part, along with vehicles and chocolate.
